Manager : Language Specialist
The purpose of this role is to provide specialised editorial services (professional language editing, proofing, copywriting, copy editing and layout/formatting) and translation services, and drive the publication and printing of all the products (audit and support) and key strategic documents of the AGSA. The role ensures that all messages are simple, clear, easy to understand and reach a wider audience with the desired impact.
Roles & Responsibilities
Strategic Function
Manage all language service products and interventions within the AGSA.
Oversee and manage the complete production process (layout, proofreading and publishing) of all audit-related reports and key strategic AGSA documents.
Manage language guidelines implementation throughout the organisation.
Manage production of all audit-related reports and key strategic AGSA documents.
Product Management
Develop policies and guidelines to standardise audit and general language use, terminology, formatting, etc. with a view to encouraging uniformity in the AGSA.
Edit and proofread all audit-related reports and key strategic AGSA documents.
Ensure information is logical, reader-friendly, clear, relevant, factual and consistent, in line with ISO plain language standard.
Ensure information has the desired impact and is consistent with the AGSA guidelines.
Create and adapt content for all digital platforms.
Peer review/ quality control documents intended for publication.
Communicate with document author and/ or content owner where content is confusing/ ambiguous and advise on changes to improve messaging.
Communicate and liaise with production/ printing houses regarding the accuracy of content, layout of all AGSA audit reports.
Communicate and liaise with business units to collate information, compare edits, review content, and manage business processes linked to managing documents and assets towards reports.
Proofread all proofs of all major publications before final printing.
Manage language service products and interventions within agreed timelines, quality standards and corporate identity/branding requirements.
Support AGSA branding principles through the branding and choice of images and colour palettes.
Manage language service interventions and products within agreed timeframes, at the correct standards and in line with AGSA branding requirements.
Edit external facing reports and corporate publications as well as all corporate content for use on the Internet and intranet.
Facilitate specialised translation services as and when required.
Present/ facilitate structured writing and language-related training and materials, including templates, checklists and user guides, for various units and levels within the organisation.
Develop and facilitate workshops on language guidelines.
Stakeholder Management
Work with AGSA IT / stakeholders to develop microsite structure and develop content for microsite.
Engage service providers to ensure edits are correctly captured, managing performance and ensuring quality control over documents.
Manage processes with production houses and printers linked to timelines and meeting deadlines etc.
Provide technical advice on language related issues, terminology and best practice to relevant stakeholders.
Liaise with relevant stakeholders to edit and produce all documents.
Manage official executive sign off all audit/ audit-related reports before the publication processes.
Develop production timelines in collaboration with stakeholders (internal and external) at the onset of development of reports.
Provide status updates on the progress of the various reports.
Research and compile language guidelines in line with leading practice and trends.
Keep abreast with language-related developments in professional editing and language usage as well as technical and financial literature.
Maintain relationships with professional bodies for language specialists.
Participate in internal language forums.
People Management
Manage own performance to drive productivity.
Participate and/or take lead in the business unit transformation/culture plans
Provide support to the management team regarding centre management and other people related tasks.
Financial Management
Contribute in the compiling of the centre budget, implement and monitor the budget for the allocated projects.
Ensure compliance to AGSA policies and procedures.
Ensure compliance with internal processes and procedures.
Manage supply chain processes within scope of work.
Other responsibilities (Applicable to All JD's)
Perform and/or manage other projects, tasks and assignments delegated by the Senior Manager not stipulated in the role profile description as and when required.
Skills, Experience & Education
Formal Education:
This position requires a minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Communication/ Arts/ Journalism/ Public Relations with registration with relevant professional body (SATI, PEG etc)
Experience:
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a language and editorial environment.
