FIT: GDPR and personal data in translation

GDPR and personal data in translation

Dear Colleagues

The first results of the joint FIT Europe – EUATC project on GDPR are now available.

The EUATC Guidance, to which FIT Europe board member John O’Shea and Stefanie Bogaerts of Freeling Foundation made a considerable contribution, addresses the specific issue of GDPR in relation to personal data in translation content.

This well-written and very useful publication is available free of charge to FIT / FIT Europe members and can be downloaded at:

Please use the discount code (100% discount): EUATC&FIT_GDPR

Please pass on this link and code to your individual members.

The joint project will continue towards more extensive guidelines aimed specifically at freelance language professionals.

I would like to thank EUATC and particularly Heike Leinhäuser, Raisa McNab and Geoffrey Bowden for the very productive collaboration on this project.

I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate John O’Shea and Stefanie Bogaerts on their presentation “Who’s afraid of the big bad GDPR wolf”, which was awarded first prize of €1000 for “Best Presentation” at the #KTLC2020 translation and localisation conference in September last. A great achievement! For details, see:

Kind regards

Dr Annette Schiller
